Objectives for the Week of January 22

Reading- We will continue our persuasive unit by looking closely at an author’s position and how we can decipher their point of view. We want to pinpoint persuasive devices, and determine if what we are reading is fact or based solely on the belief of the author.

Writing- On Tuesday and Wednesday we will be taking the writing practice STAAR. Students will have to complete a grammar and a writing portion both days. Parents will receive the scores from these tests in the next few weeks. The rest of the week, we will try our hand at writing persuasive slogans for fictional cereal brands.

Math – This week students will continue their investigation of fractions. Students need to be able to describe and compare fractional parts of whole objects or sets of objects; use concrete objects and models to generate equivalent fractions and simplest form fractions; model fraction quantities greater than one using pictorial models; and use concrete objects and pictorial models to compare and order fractions.

Science – This week students will continue our unit on Properties of Matter. We will be learning what causes matter to change through investigations. We will explore thermal energy and how it is transferred. Matter test review will be sent home Tuesday and is due next Monday January 28th.

Don't forget to keep an eye on the Science Fair timeline.  The research, procedures, and materials should have been completed last week so that they can investigate, collect data, and draw conclusions through the 30th.

Social Studies – Classes will continue to learn about the successes and challenges Texas faced as a new and independent republic.
