Objectives for the Week of October 1

Reading- We will look at literary non-fiction. These true stories are different than literary fiction; we will examine their differences and draw similarities. We will break down main ideas and understand how a summary of a literary non-fiction passage is very different.

Writing: Students will learn new and exciting ways to revise their paper to add more voice and detail. They will be sounding like professional authors in no time.

Math – This week students will begin investigating basic multiplication and division facts. The student is expected to model factors and products using arrays and area models as well as represent division situations in picture, word, and number form.
Science – This week students will continue learning about the classification of animals and how to compare adaptive characteristics of various species. They will identify characteristics that allow a species to survive in their environment.
Social Studies – Now that we have learned about the Native Americans, we are ready to discuss the explorers who came to Texas next. These explorers were all in search of land and riches.
